Brisbane
Brisbane is a city that seems to have got rather comfortable with itself.
It isn't as immediately spectacular as Sydney, it doesn't have Melbourne's slightly superior cultural attitude and it certainly doesn't have the sheer size and scale of some of Australia's other cities.
But Brisbane has something going for it that many larger cities would give their right arm for.

Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is one of those places where you arrive expecting paradise and eventually realise that somebody has built a rather large holiday resort on top of it.
Don't get me wrong. The Gold Coast is perfectly pleasant.
It has glorious beaches, sunshine, palm trees, a warm climate, plenty of restaurants, theme parks, shopping centres and enough hotels to accommodate what appears to be half of Australia.

Hervey Bay
After the brash Gold Coast, Hervey Bay comes as something of a relief.
There are no enormous skyscrapers marching along the beach, no constant insistence that you are having the time of your life and, thankfully, considerably less of the feeling that somebody is trying to sell you something every five minutes.
Hervey Bay is much more relaxed.

Sydney
The Australian city everybody has heard of, everybody has seen photographs of and which the tourist industry would quite like you to believe is the greatest city ever created.
Fortunately, in this case, the hype isn't entirely unjustified' Sydney really is spectacular.
The harbour is magnificent, the Opera House is one of the world's most recognisable buildings
