Brittany
Brittany is one of those parts of France that feels slightly different from the rest of the country.
In fact, sometimes it barely feels French at all. With its Celtic heritage, Breton language, distinctive traditions, dramatic coastline and rather stubborn sense of identity, Brittany has developed a character all of its own. It is also somewhere that I think British visitors can feel surprisingly comfortable.

Loire Valley
The Loire Valley is one of those parts of France where it is almost impossible to go anywhere without stumbling across something worth seeing.
The Loire itself is the obvious star, but the smaller Loir Valley to the north is every bit as attractive and, thankfully, considerably quieter.

Marseille
Marseille is a difficult city to review because, like the city itself, it is a mixture of the very good, the very bad and quite a lot in between.
France's second city has more than 2,600 years of history, a spectacular Mediterranean setting and some genuinely wonderful sights.
It also has a reputation for being rough around the edges, and unlike some French cities that reputation isn't entirely undeserved.

It has some of France's most spectacular coastline, beautiful villages and towns, magnificent historic buildings, the extraordinary Mont-Saint-Michel and, of course, some of the most important battlefields of the Second World War.

Paris
The city of romance, culture, fashion, fine food and people who apparently think indicating before changing direction when driving is an unnecessary extravagance.
It is also one of the world's great cities and, despite all the nonsense, there is an enormous amount to like about it.

Disneyland Paris — where subtle French culture gives way to giant mice, roller coasters and enough merchandise to bankrupt a small country.
Love it or hate it, Disneyland Paris is difficult to ignore.
